Sleep. What a beautiful thing. I think that most of us would agree with that. Sleep is beautiful. I mean is there a better feeling than climbing into your bed after a long exhausting day, relaxing, and letting go? Or even a  mid-day cat nap on the days you may have the luxury to do so? I honestly don’t think so! However, I do understand that some people have trouble with this. Busy minds can sometimes keep us up at night. Aches and pains even more so. There are many other reasons that people struggle falling and staying asleep at night.
So I’m here to talk about tips!
Sleep hygiene people!! Learn it, love it, live it. What is sleep hygiene? A quick google search took me to sleepfoundation.org who defined this as “a variety of different practices and habits that are necessary to have good nighttime sleep quality and full daytime alertness.”
Certain techniques can drastically improve your sleep hygiene and therefore.. your sleep. There are many and if you’re feeling fancy, you can go ahead and research them and go all out!! I’ll just talk about a few of my favorites: de-cluttering the bedroom, no scrolling or tv in bedroom, and promoting a relaxing atmosphere with sleep supporting essential oils.
A cluttered space can definitely cause you stress. Stress can cause poor sleep at night. If there is one room in your house that you can de-clutter, make it your bedroom! It promotes a more calm environment for you to drift away in. Clean your bedroom, forget the rest of the house for the night, and enjoy those sweeeeet dreams!
Okay.. this one may sound extreme to some people, but I’m going to say it anyways. Ditch the TV in the bedroom! And while you’re at it.. your phone too. Your body should not associate your bed with stimulating activities such as tv and/or mindless scrolling on your cellphone. It should only be for winding down, sleep, and intimacy. Try it and you’ll notice a difference!
Finally, my favorite one and I believe the easiest option.. using plant-based aromatherapy. Don’t you ever wonder why certain smells affect your mood? Well, because it’s science. Don’t believe me? Look it up!! Scents trigger a part of your brain which ties to your emotions. It’s true. Just a hint of lavender can relax your body and mind. Diffusing clary sage at bedtime can set the tone for a beautiful evening of sleep. Those are just a few. There are many sleep supporting oils and blends that Young Living provides.. and it works! I promise you will not regret it this decision.
Using sleep hygiene techniques such as these helps your body to relax at bedtime. When your body is relaxed, it also helps ease those aches/pains I mentioned earlier. When your body is relaxed, it can help your mind relax also.. keeping those busy thoughts at bay. When your body is relaxed, you will fall asleep and stay asleep much easier. Trust me
